Karshika Mela drawing crowds

The Kerala Karshika Mela, the agricultural fest organised yearly by the Gandhiji Study centre,here is drawing huge crowds at the Newman College ground, Thodupuzha, the venue of the fest.

Tapioca, elephant yam and different varieties of bananas are the main attractions of the event. Locally grown varieties of roses, bunches of coconut, ginger, turmeric, cocoa and nutmeg have been displayed at the venue.

The flower show being conducted at the mela has imported items, including euphorbia, marigold, corn marigold, starlight, hybrid ixora, gladiator each weighing 300 grams.

Saplings of different types of mangoes, jackfruit, mangostein, Malaysian rambutan and sapota are in good demand.

 Animal husbandry department, ISRO, Central Tuber Crops Research Institute, Rubber Board, CESS, Central Plantation Crops Research Institute, Horticorp, Oilpalm, Coconut Development Board, Horticulture Mission, ANERT and Kudumbashree are among those who have set up their stalls.

The mela was inaugurated on December 26 and will conclude on January 5.
